Sulzer Type 4 “Peak” Cul-de-Sac

I’ve always been a big fan of the rumbly sound of Class 37’s ever since encountering them on a trip home from my first job in the city, but the Peaks really do have something else, don’t they?

I’ve often considered buying myself a Peak in 4mm/ft with sound to emulate this, but I realise there may well be a better solution, in producing one myself in G1. The first major hurdle to this is the cab – it’s a mess of compound curves and angles, but I think I’ve got the majority of it down.

I’m sure that this would be the perfect use-case for surface modelling but I just can’t seem to grasp it properly, so this is all done with primitives, sweep/loft and chamfer. I’m nowhere near finished on the model, but I thought I would do a test print overnight to get a sense of it in 3D space.

Upon sharing this with the G1 3D circle, the designer and printer officionado Mr. T. Waldof revealed and absolutely spectacular model that’s almost complete – so this project has been shelved, for now!
