Weathering an ex-PO Wagon

One of the wagons I obtained relatively inexpensively on eBay was what looked like a Tenmille P.O. wagon – it was missing the door catches and hinges, and these were whipped up quickly in CAD and re-attached.

An overall coat of Black-Brown was applied to unify the model:

Selected planks were picked out in the livery I was trying to achieve (Wm. Cory) – in this case, red:

A gentle pencil outline of the letters was drawn onto the planks, using the ironwork as datum points, and then a sponge with more black-brown to break up the outlines of the planks and lettering more:

Various tones of beige and grey were mixed and applied, being careful to ensure that these were continued up until a plank joint (i.e. corners or between the door and the main body of the wagon), and then an overall wash of brown-grey was applied:

Shown on a test track with some wheels, the wagon looks like this:

It does need some ex-PO wagon markings on it – and to paint the reverse in the ‘proper’ livery – but that will wait for another day.
