Coaching Stock

This page is an aggregate of all the information I have on the coaching stock for Brighton Trafalgar – where there is something more to say, I have broken it out into a separate subpage.

The first rolling stock project I undertook for this layout was the conversion of some venerable Triang clerestories into LBSCR prototypes as described by Terry Gough in an old Railway modeller – a page detailing the conversion proces is here: Triang Clerestory Conversions

A more straightforward inclusion for the railway was to build up a pair of Peco/Parkside Midland Railway suburbans as Stroudley D67 bogie thirds. This was a much more straightforward process requiring only some minor detail changes and new bogies: Peco/Parkside Conversions

The forthcoming Rapido Evolution 48′ bogie carriages are not strictly prototypical for the LBSCR, but represent a rare opportunity to obtain Edwardian ‘Brighton stock as a RTR item, so I have ordered all six variants. Roxey Mouldings offer a trio of D168 / D91 / D168 – but it is not sensible economically in either cost or time at this point: maybe if I end up with a loft empire!

I have a kit for one of the signature “Balloon Trailers” used on the Kemp Town and Devil’s Dyke shuttles, so I have one from Roxey – but it’s still sitting in its box at the moment.

LBSCR No. 681 (ex-Beulah) Class A1 Terrier in 2-4-0T configuration hauling a D181 Push-Pull Balloon Trailer – between 1909 and 1913, outside Brighton Loco Works heading towards Platform 9

One of the significant omissions to the fleet is a rake of Pullmans for my Atlantics to pull around. I’m hoping to obtain some from Mr. I. MacCormac from EB Models soon: Brighton Pullman Limited Coaches

An artists decpition of No. 422 (to be “North Foreland”) pulling the Southern Belle all-pullman service out of Brighton in the Edwardian period.

A characterful addition that is proving harder than expected to fulfill is the Sunny South Express

Though we now have an embarrassment of LBSCR 4w and 6w coaches in RTR format from Hattons/Rails and Hornby, I have done some Four and Six Wheeler Conversions
